An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #11 (The Desert of Death) Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 37 1/4" x 75 3/4" [95 x 192 cm]) (Learn More)

Ruth of the Range, the 1923 Ernest C. Warde, Frank Leon Smith & W.S. Van Dyke silent action adventure thriller serial starring Ruth Roland (in the title role as Ruth Remington), Bruce Gordon, Lorimer Johnston, Ernest C. Warde, and Pat Harmon. Note that Ruth Roland was second only to Pearl White as being best remembered from silent serials of the 1910s. She started in movies in 1909, but in 1915, after the great success of White's "The Perils of Pauline" the previous year, Roland starred in her own 14 episode serial called "The Red Circle", and she went on to make six more serials for Pathe, receiving the credit of "Produced by Ruth Roland Serials, Inc.". After 1925, she only appeared in three more movies, returning to the stage where she had performed before entering movies. She passed away in 1937 from cancer, at just 45 years of age. Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Important Added Info: Note that this three-sheet measures 37 1/4" x 75 3/4" [95 x 192 cm].

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had many tears and areas of paper loss scattered on the folds, and some scattered in the rest of the image. There were pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. Someone started to do the extensive restoration required for this poster, but they did not finish it (see our image). The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
