An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (40x60; measures 40" x 60" [102 x 152 cm]) (Learn More)

Cafe Metropole, the 1937 Edward H. Griffith Paris France gambling romantic melodrama (about an American owner of a casino in Paris who embezzles a lot of money, and has to get it back quickly or go to prison, and he gets involved with the beautiful daughter of another casino owner, a crazy pretend Russian prince, and others!) starring Loretta Young, Tyrone Power Jr., Adolphe Menjou, Gregory Ratoff, Charles Winninger, and Helen Westley

Artist: Joseph A. Maturo
Important Added Info: Note that 40x60 posters (and 30x40 posters) are generally associated with the 1950s and 1960s, but they were actually made for almost all movies of the 1930s and 1940s as well! But they cost far more than the one-sheets and three-sheets (because they are printed on a higher quality paper stock and rolled and not folded), so it is likely that very few were ordered by theaters, and almost none of them survive from ANY movies from before World War II. This is an extremely rare 1937 40x60! Also note that we have been told that the artwork on this poster is by Joseph A. Maturo, who also did the artwork on the one-sheet, but we cannot be certain that is correct. If anyone knows who did the art, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had a 7" tear near the center of the bottom border and some tiny tears and tiny paper loss in parts of the borders, with some faint smudges and scuffs scattered throughout (very typical on posters like these). Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
