An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Handsome Brute, the 1925 Robert Eddy silent romantic Irish cop crime melodrama ("A two-fisted love drama of a policeman's battle for honor"; about a young cop who loses his job on the force, and then jewel thieves start robbing places, and a famous detective shows up to solve the crimes, and the ex-cop figures out that the detective is actually the thief, and he beats him up and arrests him, and is given his job back and wins his girl's heart) starring William Fairbanks, Virginia Lee Corbin, Lee Shumway, Robert Bolder, J.J. Bryson, and Daniel Belmont. Note that this was an early movie from Columbia Pictures. It was typical of their movies of this time, in that it had second tier stars, but they tried to make up for it with exciting plots and dynamic posters! Note that William Fairbanks was a German-American born Carl Uhlman, and he started in movies at the age of 22 in 1916, and he acted under his own name. In 1921, he had an inspiration and changed his name to "William Fairbanks" (although he was no relation to Douglas Fairbanks), and he started starring in mostly action movies, like Doug did at the same time, and many of William's movies involved car racing, and he did his own stunts. He had a fair amount of success in westerns and action movies, but most of his movies were made for lesser studios, and his career ended in 1928 with the coming of sound. He passed away in 1945 at the age of 50, after having contracted pneumonia. Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Important Added Info:

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was folded in half an extra time and it had tiny tears and tiny paper loss in the right half of the top horizontal fold, including some in the girl's face, with a lesser amount of wear on the other folds. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
