An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41 1/2") (Learn More) Ian Fleming's Thunderball, the 1965 Terence Young English James Bond 007 secret agent spy espionage fantasy action adventure thriller ("L007k up! L007k down! L007k out!"; "Here comes the biggest Bond of all!"; "Based on the original story by Kevin McClory, Jack Whittingham and Ian Fleming") starring Sean Connery (as James Bond 007), Claudine Auger, (as Domino) Adolfo Celi (as Largo), Luciana Paluzzi, Rik Van Nutter, Martine Beswick, Guy Doleman, Molly Peters, Bernard Lee (as "M"), Lois Maxwell (as Miss Moneypenny), Desmond Llewellyn (as "Q"), Paul Stassino, Bob Simmons, and Rose Alba NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Robert McGinnis & Frank McCarthy Important Added Info: Note that there are THREE variations of this "look up! look down! look out!" style of one-sheet that are all original to 1965! There are two that look identical except for the reversal of the producer credits (this was done on almost all Bond movies, so that Broccoli and Saltzman could each come first in "half" the world!). But the third variation has completely different placement of the NSS information at the bottom, PLUS the top of Connery's tank at the top center of the poster has been cropped so that it doesn't extend past the border. Plus the artwork in the middle section is cropped differently. ALL THREE OF THESE POSTERS ARE ORIGINAL TO 1965, AND AS FAR AS WE KNOW, COLLECTORS VALUE THEM EQUALLY! We have no idea why this extra variation was created, but we do know that, when the movie was re-released in the early 1980s (perhaps 1980), the "cropped tank" variation artwork was used for that one-sheet. The poster offered here is definitely the 1965 one-sheet with the "uncropped tank"! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Condition: fair. Note that the poster was used in another country, and they very carefully painted a foreign language title over the original title area in white and red paint (and it is possible this paint can be somewhat easily removed, but it is also quite possible that it would be difficult or near impossible to remove, so bear that in mind before bidding on this poster). This poster has been paperbacked, but it was not very well done, either because the restorer did not do a very good job, or because the years since it has been paperbacked have not been kind to the poster. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. Generally, it had creases, scuffs, and extra folds on all the foldlines and pinholes, smudges, and some creases around the edges of the poster. There is a tape stain in the background above the girl laying down at bottom right, and some tape stains in the borders. There is also a painted or stamped foreign distributor emblem in the top right of the lower white background area. The poster was not that well backed, because you can see signs of the above general defects and the restoration of the defects (in some cases, as should be immediately evident in our image, the paperbacker did no restoration to some of the defects). I would think few collectors would want to display it as it is, without someone performing some additional restoration. Certainly, a talented restorer could perform additional restoration to this great poster (either with or without re-backing the poster), and after it is done, the poster will look great, although it will have a fair amount of restoration to the defects described above.
