An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style B Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Tarzan's Secret Treasure, the 1941 Richard Thorpe Africa action jungle adventure fantasy thriller ("NEW THRILLS 2 years in production"; "See King Tarz The Celebrated Jungle Actor"; "Reenacting one of the Thrilling Scenes from Metro-Goldwyn-Meyers's New Tarzan picture"; "Based upon the characters created by Edgar Rice Burroughs") starring Johnny Weissmuller (in the title role as Tarzan), Maureen O'Sullivan (as Jane), Johnny Sheffield (as Boy), Reginald Owen, Barry Fitzgerald, Tom Conway, Philip Dorn, Cordell Hickman (as Tumbo; a black African American juvenile actor who retired when he was 14, but he only received stereotypical roles given to young blacks of that time), Cheeta (the chimpanzee), and "King Tarz" (the "Sensational Jungle Actor", the lion). Important Added Info: Note that 1941 first release posters from this movie are extremely rare (likely because it was quickly re-released in both 1948 and 1954, which would have used up the first release posters). We previously auctioned an example of this poster in 1996 (21 years ago). We then auctioned this exact poster in 1998 before it was linenbacked, and the buyer of that poster (19 years ago!) has had it linenbacked and has re-consigned it to us, so it is still one of the only two examples of this poster we have ever auctioned, and it may be another 19 years before we auction it again! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had a 6" diagonal tear in the top right corner that went through the vine, but there was no paper loss along the tear. There was paper loss in the blank border at the end of that tear. There were some tiny areas of paper loss at the crossfolds and some creases, small tears, and smudges on parts of some folds, with some pinholes, tears, and smudges in the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
