A 1950 Re-Release Theatrical Unfolded Movie Paper Banner (measures 24" x 82" [61 x 208 cm]) (Learn More)

Platinum Blonde, the classic 1931 Frank Capra romantic comedy (about a poor newspaper reporter who helps a rich heiress, and despite their complete different lifestyles, they marry, but it is a doomed romance, but fortunately, he has best friend Loretta Young, and he finally realizes he loves her in the closing moments of the movie!) starring Loretta Young, Robert Williams (in his final movie role), Jean Harlow, Halliwell Hobbes, Reginald Owen, and Louise Closser Hale. Note that star Robert Williams played the lead in this movie, and seemed that he might have a very promising career, but he developed appendicitis shortly after it was finished, and he died of peritonitis four days after the movie opened!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this banner, which we have never auctioned before, is a silkscreen printed poster with an actual black & white photo which has neatly been "tipped in" (glued to the left side of the poster). Paper banners were sometimes made in this way at that time, and it makes for a striking poster, and few people would realize that it is not printed on a single piece, unless they examine the poster closely. Note that the silkscreen portions of this poster usually pick up scuff marks far more easily than other posters of this period (this was caused by the method of silkscreen printing, and is very common on these posters, and is not considered a major defect, unless it is very noticeable or distracting).

Note that this poster is very long, but because it is not very wide, it can be sent in a regular size tube. However, it can NOT be combined with other rolled posters, and must be either sent by itself (or combined with other items that are exactly like this). Please bear this in mind before bidding on this poster.

Finally, note that the poster says "A COLUMBIA REPRINT" in the bottom center. This was a terminology used by Columbia Pictures at this time for some re-releases, and it has caused some collectors to be confused! This poster is the original poster from the 1950 re-release of this movie, and is NOT a "reprint"!

Condition: very good to fine. The banner has just a few creases, smudges, and scuffs scattered throughout, but significantly fewer than most surviving paper banners from this period. It has a partial vertical crease 4" from the left, but otherwise, it is in surprisingly nice condition.
