An Unfolded Music Concert Poster (measures 19 1/2" x 34" [50 x 86 cm]) (Learn More) Sam Cooke was a legendary black African American singer-songwriter from the 1950s to the 1960s. He is commonly referred to as "The King of Soul" and had 30 U.S. top 40 hits between 1957 and 1964. He passed away in 1964 at the age of 33 when he was tragically shot and beaten to death, under extremely questionable circumstances, by a hotel manager (who claimed self-defense) in Los Angeles, California. Some of his hits include: You Send Me, A Change Is Gonna Come, Cupid, Chain Gang, Wonderful World, and Twistin' the Night Away If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that there are many reproduction window cards of appearances by classic 1950s and 1960s rock 'n' roll performers. However, this is an INCREDIBLY rare original oversized window card! It advertises performances by headliner Sam Cooke, and also by Jerry Butler, Dee Clark, The Crystals, The Drifters, Solomon Burke, Little Esther Phillips, Dionne Warwick, Johnny Thunder, Little Julius High, and The Upsetters Band. It is from the year before Mr. Cooke was tragically killed. The poster is printed on a heavy board and absolutely must be shipped in a large flat package. Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 19 1/2" x 34" [50 x 86 cm]. Condition: fair. The poster was trimmed on the left, right, and top, and we can't say exactly how much was trimmed, because we could not find another example of the poster to compare it to. However, the most important parts of the poster are present. It is very fragile. There is a 4" tear in the bottom center, with some other small tears on the bottom. There are some stains scattered down the center of the poster, but while some show through to the front, others do not, and fortunately, they do not show through in Cooke's face. There are some other small stains scattered in the poster. Please do not bid on this extremely rare poster unless you can accept its significant defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored. Learn More about condition grades
