An Original Vintage Theatrical Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Five Graves to Cairo, the 1943 Billy Wilder World War II (WWII) Egypt British-in-Africa military spy espionage romantic action thriller ("Did a Woman Start the Rout of Rommel?"; "Based on a play by Lajos Biro"; about an English undercover agent stationed in northern Africa who discovers that the Nazis have hidden stockpiles of supplies in different bases across northern Africa, and he has to figure out a way to alert the Allies while behind enemy lines, with the aid of a beautiful woman) starring Franchot Tone, Anne Baxter, Akim Tamiroff, Erich von Stroheim ("as Field Marshal Erwin Rommel", The Desert Fox), and Peter Van Eyck NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was gel backed, and while it could be rolled and sent in a tube, we would worry that doing so would either damage the poster or bring back the folds. Therefore, we would much prefer to send it in a large flat package. However, if the new buyer insists, we will send it in a tube, but only if they accept responsibility for doing so. Condition: good. Prior to gelbacking, the poster had stains in von Stroheim's upper lip. It had tiny tears and darkening on parts of the folds, with pinholes and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to restoration. A talented restorer gel backed the poster (meaning they backed the poster onto a gel material) and they then performed restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, so that the poster still exactly looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. You can see signs of the restoration, but the poster displays pretty well. Also, after the poster was backed, it acquired some creases in the top left blank corner and some small stains in the lower left border and in the bottom border (see our image). Someone put a piece of clear tape in the center of the top blank border. Learn More about condition grades
