Die 3 Groschen-Oper (released in the U.S. as "The 3 Penny Opera" and "The Threepenny Opera"), the 1931 G.W. Pabst (Georg Wilhelm Pabst) German musical romantic crime melodrama starring Rudolf Forster (as Mackie Messer/Mack the Knife), Carola Neher (as Polly), Reinhold Schunzel, Fritz Rasp, Valeska Gert, and Lotte Lenya (billed as "Lotte Lenja"; as Jenny). This was a German version of "The Threepenny Opera" made by Warner Bros. in 1931. Universal did the same thing with "Dracula" in 1931. They filmed the movie twice, once in English, and once in Spanish, with two entirely different casts, U.S. actors for the English version and mostly Latin actors for the Spanish version, obviously for release in Spanish speaking countries, and the same was done with this movie, except this movie was released in German and French (the French language version, "L'opera de quat'sous", starred Albert Prejean and Florelle). Interestingly, although Warner Bros. apparently financed this movie, they did not create an English language version, perhaps because it was considered too daring for American audiences (they solely released it undubbed in German in the U.S. in 1933, two years after it was made!). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that original movie paper of any sort from this title is INCREDIBLY scarce!

Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" item for this German movie! Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the back cover, and an interior 2-page spread from this program book.
