A 1936 Re-Release Theatrical Unfolded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 12 1/2" x 15 3/4" [32 x 40 cm]) (Learn More)

Ambassador Bill, the 1931 Sam Taylor romantic political comedy (about the American ambassador to a small mythical European country who befriends the young heir to the throne, and he needs to help keep the boy alive!) starring Will Rogers (in the title role as Bill Harper), Greta Nissen, Marguerite Churchill, Gustav von Seyffertitz, Ray Milland, and Tad Alexander. Note that Tad Alexander, who co-stars in this movie, as the young King Paul of an unnamed foreign country, was making his film debut at the age of 9. He made nine more movies over the next three years, but then, he grew quite a bit, and could not play pre-teen roles! He trained himself to play the piano, and gave concerts! He left show business to join the military in World War II, and never returned to show business, passing away in 2012 in the age of 90.

Important Added Info: Note that Will Rogers was the foremost movie star for Fox Pictures in the early 1930s, and was at the height of his career when he was killed in a plane crash in 1935. Fox had just merged with Twentieth Century Pictures to form 20th Century Fox (Rogers had made one movie for the combined company), and immediately after his death, and for the year after, 20th Century Fox re-issued all of his sound movies. This poster is from the 1936 re-release of Rogers' 1931 "Ambassador Bill" (but oddly, instead of using the new 20th Century Fox information at the bottom of the poster, they instead used a two-color version of the original poster, which still referred to "A FOX PICTURE"). Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 12 1/2" x 15 3/4" [32 x 40 cm]. Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded.

Condition: fair to good. The card was heavily trimmed (no doubt to use as a backing board), but fortunately, it only affected the top of the "S" of "ROGERS" and a tiny bit of the end of the letters of the title (see our image).
