Date Sold 11/6/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More) Zane Grey's Drums of the Desert, the 1927 John Waters silent Native American Indian Navajo silent cowboy western ("From the story 'Desert Bound' by Zane Grey"; about a man who is friends with Indians, and he must stop a bad man trying to steal their land to get the oil that is located there) starring Warner Baxter, Ford Sterling, Marietta Millner, Wallace MacDonald, George Irving, and Bernard Siegel (a Polish Jewish character actor, playing the Navajo chief!). Note that Warner Baxter was born in 1889, and in the early 1920s he rose to prominence in silent movies, becoming a major star of the 1920s, while he was in his 30s. He won the Oscar for Best Actor as The Cisco Kid in "In Old Arizona" in 1929, and he remained a top star throughout the 1930s. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has never been machine folded! Most insert posters were folded twice horizontally right off of the printing press. It is very difficult to find an unfolded example of most insert posters, especially from before 1970! Note that this poster is very old, and it would not make sense to attempt to roll it, as the paper is fragile enough that rolling it might damage it. Therefore we will send it in a large flat package. Please bear that extra shipping cost in mind BEFORE placing a bid on this poster! Note that the poster is not so fragile that it is "falling to pieces"! If it is handled carefully, it can absolutely be framed and enjoyed without any worry. Note that this insert comes from an amazing find of inserts that was made in 2010 (all of the inserts were from 1925 to 1927, and included BABE COMES HOME, NEW YORK, and other wonderful titles!). We auctioned those inserts in two of our mini/major auctions that year. There were six duplicated titles which we are auctioning in this present auction (all are in lesser condition than the previously auctioned examples). Once these six are gone, all that remains from this collection are some VERY lesser condition inserts (and those will be auctioned in a few bulk lots in a future auction). Don't miss this final opportunity to purchase one or more of these incredible inserts! Condition: fair. The poster has staining scattered throughout and some tattering in the borders. The poster is somewhat fragile. Learn More about condition grades
