An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures approximately 3" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More)

Rex Ingram's The Magician, the 1926 Rex Ingram silent science fiction (sci-fi) magical alchemist fantasy thriller (based on a novel by W. Somerset Maugham; about a crazy magician/alchemist who is working to create life, but he needs the blood of a virgin, and he sends his dwarf assistant to find the right girl, and many feel that this movie was inspiration for Universal's Frankenstein made just five years later) starring Alice Terry, Paul Wegener (in the title role as Oliver Haddo, the magician; best remembered as the co-director and star of the three German expressionist movies starring "The Golem", which he made in 1915, 1917 and 1920; the Golem is widely regarded as one of the first movie monsters, and likely had a strong influence in the creation of the American horror monsters in the 1930s!), Ivan Petrovich, Firmin Gemier, Gladys Hamer, and Henry Wilson (as Haddo's servant; a dwarf; he only made a handful of movies in the 1920s). Note that Somerset Maugham got revenge in writing this story! The magician is a caricature of Aleister Crowley, who had accused Maugham of plagiarism in a 1908 Vanity Fair critique, and this was Maugham's way of getting back at Crowley!

Important Added Info: Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline).

Condition: fair to good. There is a slightly diagonal crack running down the left of the slide. Otherwise, the slide is in pretty good condition.
