An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Invitation to Happiness, the 1939 Wesley Ruggles boxing sports romantic family relationship melodrama (from the story by Mark Jerome; about a professional boxer who neglects his wife and child, and they leave him, and ten years later, when he is about to fight for the championship, his wife and child return, and he promises to pay more attention to them, and he wins the championship) starring Irene Dunne, Fred MacMurray, Charlie Ruggles, William Collier Sr., Billy Cook (a child actor who worked from age 10 to 13 and made a dozen movies and then retired), and Marion Martin NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: This was printed by Associated Displays Corporation which was a company based in New York City. Before it was discovered by noted poster dealer/historian Walter Reuben, collectors did not know the name of this company (and thought it to be located in the Midwest), and it is often referred to as the "other company" (and we will continue to refer to it that way, since collectors know it that way). From 1936 to roughly 1941, this company printed its own one-sheets and lobby card sets (and a very few inserts, half-sheets, three-sheets, 40x60s and stills) for three major studio movies (Warner Brothers, Paramount and United Artists, but no other studios). The items almost always feature a tiny legal disclaimer and cast credits only. The posters and lobby cards are from the original release of the movie, and almost always have completely different artwork from the regular studio release. They did this by combining elements from different film scenes onto one poster or card. Sometimes, "other company" posters have images that are the equal of those from the regular studio release posters. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had some creases, smudges, and scuffs scattered throughout, more so around the edges. It had two tears in the bottom border. It had tiny paper loss in the upper right border and it had larger paper loss in the left of the top border, extending into the top of the head of the boxer. Someone backed the poster and did next to no restoration, EXCEPT they re-drew the missing artwork in the upper left, and they did a nice job of it.
