Date Sold 4/5/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Linenbacked French World War I Poster (measures 32 1/4" x 47" [82 x 119 cm]) (Learn More) Journee Du Poilu (roughly translates to "Days of the Soldier"), the 1915 French World War I (WWI) Home Front poster encouraging people to donate to the French war efforts. Poilu (which literally meant "hairy") was also French military slang for a soldier, and many posters were created to promote these fundraising days. Artist: Francisque Poulbot Condition: fair. The poster was extremely fragile and had separation, small tears, and some paper loss on some foldlines and in the borders, where there was also some staining, as seen in our image. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. Someone simply mounted the poster on a very thin linen, likely to stop the deterioration, but did no restoration. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its significant defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored! Learn More about condition grades
