Artist: Jack Davis Important Added Info: Note that the art on this poster is by legendary E.C. Comics/Mad Magazine artist, Jack Davis. In the 1960s, he did a lot of movie posters, and he did several subway posters like this one, but they are all extremely rare (likely because they were only used in New York City, where they were actually used in subway stations and never came off the walls). We have never auctioned this subway poster before! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of some folds, and the top and bottom borders were folded back at one time, and there were smudges, stains, and some tears in the bottom border. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, but at some point after it was backed, it acquired some drip staining down the right edge of the background, entirely in the white background areas (see our image). Any restorer could easily touch this up without re-backing the poster. Learn More about condition grades
