An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Six-Sheet Movie Poster (6sh; measures 81" x 81" [206 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Just Around the Corner, the 1938 Irving Cummings family relationship riches-to-rags juvenile musical comedy ("From an original story by Paul Gerard Smith"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; a familiar story for Shirley; while she is at boarding school, her wealthy idealistic architect father loses all his money in the Depression, and moves from the penthouse of his building to the basement, where he works as the building's janitor; Shirley befriends a millionaire, and ultimately helps her father not only regain his status in life, but also to realize his lifelong dream of renovating slum areas) starring Shirley Temple, Charles Farrell, Joan Davis, Amanda Duff, Bert Lahr, Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson, Franklin Pangborn (billed as "Clyde Pangborn"), Cora Witherspoon, Bennie Bartlett, and Claude Gillingwater. Note that Amanda Duff was a pretty young actress who was discovered by playwright Robert E. Sherwood in 1936, and signed by Fox. She made a handful of movies for them in 1938 and 1939, and then she married screenwriter Phillip Dunne and retired to become a wife and mother. She passed away in 2006 at the age of 92. Important Added Info: Note that this poster should have been in Part I of this December Major Auction, because it is a U.S. movie poster, but the mail delayed delivery of it to us, so we have put it in this Part II instead. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had paper loss at several crossfolds and larger paper loss in the top of the center vertical fold, running through Farrell's face. It had creases, tears, and small paper loss along many of the other folds. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. It was backed onto a thin linen and the restoration was pretty well done, and the poster likely displayed well, but at some point after it was backed, it was roughly handled, and it acquired creases running across the center of the entire poster (both in the poster and the linen backing), and it also acquired surface paper loss in the top left corner, in Gillingwater's forehead and cheek (see our image). Obviously, one could have further restoration performed, with or without re-backing the poster, or one could display the poster as it is, but please bear in mind these significant defects before bidding on this poster.
