An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 8 1/4" x 11" [21 x 28 cm] Stage Play Still (Learn More) Clifton Webb was born in 1889, and he was primarily a stage actor, appearing in a small number of movies, starting in silents. In 1944, at the age of 55 he achieved stardom with his role as Waldo Lydecker in Laura (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film). He parlayed that fame into starring roles in movies, most notably in the series of Mr. Belvedere movies, where he was a male nanny. He was gay, but that remained a "secret" throughout his life, and he lived with, and was devoted to, his beloved mother throughout most of his adult life, and they were inseparable. When she died in 1960, he went into a major decline, both mentally and physically, and he made only one more movie before passing away in 1966 at the age of 76. Some of his movies include: Sitting Pretty (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Razor's Edge (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), and Titanic Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned a great still of Mr. Webb from 1935, when he was first signed by Hollywood, and we thought he looked young there, but this still is from five years before that, and he is so young looking as to almost be unrecognizable! Note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 8 1/4" x 11" [21 x 28 cm]. Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Condition: fair to good. The still was trimmed from a larger size, to just around the figure of Mr. Webb. The still was used in a newspaper or magazine and there are crop marks and printer instruction around the edges and grey paint to the right of his head and shoulder (so it would show up better in the printed article).
