An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked South American One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27 1/2" x 40 1/4" [70 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Tom and Jerry, the circa 1970s stock poster for MGM's Tom & Jerry animated cat-and-mouse chase animated animation cartoon comedy shorts. The poster has great central violent artwork image of Tom & Jerry engaging in their usual feline cat & mouse hi-jinks (far more violent than any U.S. posters for this duo)! Note that Tom and Jerry is a classic series of cartoons created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The first one was created in 1940, and there as a total of 114 cartoons through 1957. Seven of these won Academy Awards for Best Cartoon, tying for most wins with Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies. There were around 50 more cartoons created after the first run ended, through the early 2000s, and there were also TV shows based on these classic characters. Some people have criticized the cartoons for their "excessive violence", but actually no blood or gore was ever shown in any of them, and this type of violence is commonly referred to as "cartoon violence". Many of the Tom and Jerry cartoons are extremely clever and make wonderful use of music. They are not nearly as appreciated today as they should be, but in their day, they were among the most popular cartoons of the 1940s! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we are not sure what country this poster is from (see below)! Because there is an Argentinean poster with the same image as this (but with completely different coloring), we are thinking that this poster is also from a South American country, but that is really just a guess. We don't think it is from the U.S., because this ultra violent image was not used on any U.S. posters we know of. Here's why we are calling it "South American": In the past, we have had a few similar posters (in layout and size), and we have called them "Spanish" meaning they are from Spain, but Spanish collectors have e-mailed us that they are definitely NOT from Spain, and some have suggested they might be Brazilian. We have also labeled some of these unknown Spanish language posters as being "South American", and no one has ever been able to zero in on a specific country. We think it is unlikely this poster is from Spain, or for that matter, unlikely that it is from Argentina, Venezuela, or Colombia. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at the top and bottom crossfolds, with paper loss at the right end of the bottom fold, extending into the yellow background. There was some separation and small tears on parts of some folds. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
