An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Argentinean Two-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 43" x 58") (Learn More) A Star Is Born, the classic 1954 George Cukor theater stage acting musical romantic melodrama ("We believe there hasn't been before, even once, such a performance by a motion picture star, such perfection in motion picture entertainment!"; "There has been no performance like Judy Garland's. There has been no picture like 'A Star is Born'."; about an aging star who marries an up-and-coming star; partially based on the true story of Al Jolson and Ruby Keeler, which had been previously somewhat covered in "The Jolson Story" in 1946) starring Judy Garland (nominated for of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; her loss to Grace Kelly was famously quipped by Groucho Marx as "the biggest robbery since Brink's"!), James Mason (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Jack Carson, Charles Bickford, Tommy Noonan, Lucy Marlow, Amanda Blake, Irving Bacon, James Brown, Lotus Robb, Richard Webb, and Sam Colt. Note that this movie was loosely remade in 1976, with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristoffersen in the lead roles, and they were updated to being rock 'n' roll (rock and roll) performers. It was remade again in 2018, with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good to fine. This poster was linenbacked, and it had very minor defects, and was well backed. Read below for a description of those defects, and about the quality of the restoration (if I found anything worth commenting on!). You should also look at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). the poster had small paper loss at the top left crossfold and tiny paper loss in the 12"" of the foldline beneath that; there was small paper loss in the tip of Garland's finger on her left hand and tiny paper loss in the bottom right of the image background; there were a few other minor defects along the folds and some minor border defects, but overall, the poster was in nice condition prior to linenbacking, and it was well restored, and it looks great now!
