An Original Vintage Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) Gus Hill's Minstrels, the circa 1910s glass slide ("The world's greatest minstrel organization"; "in an entirely new program") advertising a minstrel show featuring white performers in blackface ("Who put dat tack dere?"). Note that Gus Hill was a vaudeville performer in the 1870s who had a juggling act, but in the 1890s, he started a minstrel show with performers in blackface, and he had great success over the next few decades with different minstrel shows. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Important Added Info: Note that any items from this vaudeville show are incredibly rare. We have never auctioned anything from this until we received this glass slide! Also note that this slide has "MON. FEB. 2" at the bottom, and that fell in 1903, 1914, and 1920, and we think this is from one of those three dates, perhaps 1914. Also note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). This slide is the kind that has two panes of glass that are taped together with black tape around all four edges (front and back), typical of many older glass slides. We have provided a high quality scan of the image, but we have not taken a photo of the slide, because there would really be very little to see! Condition: very good.
