Note that the meaning of the words "Tin Pan Alley" are pretty forgotten today, but in the days before television, just about every home had a piano, and sheet music sold in the millions! In New York City, starting around 1915, 46th Street and 8th Avenue became known as Tin Pan Alley, because that's where all of the song publishers were located, and every would-be songwriter would dream of selling their songs there! Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster was simply backed on to a very thin linen with no excess (this likely occurred when the poster was first distributed to theaters). It had its blank borders trimmed off, which would lead us to think it might have occurred after the very first release, but it was surely a long time ago. It probably originally had next-to-no defects, but at some point after it was backed, it became water stained throughout, and it was also roughly handled, so it has a lot of creases and tears scattered throughout. It clearly suffers from some sort of mold or mildew. If I owned this poster, I would surely have it removed from the thin linen, and backed by a talented professional. After this, it would probably display quite well, but this surely would involve considerable expense, so bear that in mind before placing a bid on this poster. While one would certainly prefer to find a better example of this poster, it is extremely likely that no other example of it exists, and it seems pretty amazing to me that it exists at all!
