An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 10 3/4" x 13 5/8" [27 x 35 cm]) (Learn More) Casablanca, the classic 1942 Michael Curtiz (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) anti-Nazi World War II (WWII) romantic love triangle melodrama ("From a play by Murray Burnett and June Alison"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; it is interesting to note that the movie was made while World War II was being fought, and at a point when it seemed very real that Germany might take over the entire world, and in that context, the strong emotions expressed throughout the movie are all the more poignant, given what was going on in the world at that time) starring Humphrey Bogart (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as "Rick", Richard Blaine), Ingrid Bergman (as Ilsa Lund), Paul Henreid (as Victor Laszlo), Claude Rains (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Captain Renault), Conrad Veidt (as Major Strasser), Sydney Greenstreet (as Signor Ferrari), Peter Lorre (as Ugarte), S.Z. Sakall (as Carl), Dooley Wilson (as Sam), Madeleine LeBeau (as Yvonne), Leonid Kinskey (as Sascha), John Qualen (as Berger), Marcel Dalio (as Emil, the croupier at the roulette wheel), Corinna Mura (as the cabaret singer who plays the guitar and sings "La Marseillaise"), Helmut Dantine (as the young man playing roulette), and Joy Page (as Dantine's girlfriend, who is willing to sleep with Rains) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card measures 10 3/4" x 13 5/8" [27 x 35 cm], but it has not been trimmed. UPDATED 04/28/2011: Note that there was a typo in the Important Added Info section which indicated that this card had not been trimmed (the trimmed information was clearly stated in the Overall Condition section.) This has been corrected. Condition: fair to good. The top and right borders were neatly and partially trimmed, and the card now measures 10 3/4" x 13 5/8". The card has pinholes, smudges, and small stains around the edges. There is what appears to be paint in the right of the top and bottom borders. There is a light "wave" across the upper center of the card (it is not at all a crease). There are approximately 12 tiny pinholes scattered in the image area (one falls at the left of Bogart's mouth, but the others are not in the stars' faces, although there are a few in their clothes). Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back of the card! Obviously, this great card has many defects, but it is fortunate that the majority of them are in the borders or in solid colored areas. Certainly, a talented restorer could paperback this card, and after proper restoration, the card will look great, and there won't be much restoration needed within the image area. But please do not bid on this great card unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored! Learn More about condition grades
