An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian Movie Poster (measures 19 1/4" x 27 1/2" [49 x 70 cm]) (Learn More) Catene Invisibili (literally translates to "Invisible Chains"), the 1942 Mario Mattoli Italian romantic family relationship melodrama (about a young woman who is carefree until her father, a wealthy industrialist, passes away, and she must start dealing with his company, which is greatly complicated by the discovery of a half-brother, who seeks only to get money from the estate) starring Alida Valli (often billed as Valli; best remembered as the female lead of The Third Man), Carlos Ninchi, Andrea Checchi, Carlos Campanini, and Guiditta Rissone. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. Note that this was one of the movies Valli made in Italy during World War II. Two movies later, she would star in the two-part Italian adaptation of Ayn Rand's "We the Living"! If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this Italian movie! Note that this is an original Italian release from during World War II. Virtually no pre-war (and wartime) Italian posters are known to have survived (probably because paper shortages in Italy during WWII resulted in almost all posters being recycled). Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had slight darkening, small tears, and tiny bits of paper loss on both folds. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
