An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Japanese Movie Poster (measures 16 1/2" x 23 3/4") (Learn More)

Ugetsu Monogatari (released in the U.S. in 1954 as "Ugetsu"), the classic 1953 Kenji Mizoguchi Japanese 16th century samurai warlord fantasy melodrama ("Grand Prize Winner- Venice Film Festival"; "with the stars of 'Rashomon'") starring Masayuki Mori, Machiko Kyo, Kinuyo Tanaka (billed as "the First Lady of the Japanese Screen"), Eitaro Ozawa, and Ikio Sawamura. Note that this movie has a very complicated plot that is difficult to summarize, but it is set in 16th century Japan, and involves a man and his brother-in-law, and one makes pottery, and one wants to become a samurai, and there are ghosts and other fantasy elements, and everybody agrees this movie is a masterpiece!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is a rare "country of origin" poster for this Japanese movie!

Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded and had some very minor border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! After the poster was linenbacked, a small red mark was made in the left blank area of the linen, but this is only in the linen and the poster itself is completely unaffected. When the poster is framed, the excess linen would be matted out and the red mark would not be noticeable, or a talented restorer could likely remove the mark or touch up the linen so it is not visible at all.
