eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result w059 SHEIK magic lantern movie glass slide '21 Rudolph Valentino, classic! Date Sold 6/27/2006Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures approximately 3" x 4") (Learn More) The Sheik, the classic 1921 George Melford Arabia silent romantic melodrama ("It's a Paramount Picture"; "Based on the novel by Edith M. Hull"; about an Arab sheik who meets a female British socialite, and he falls heavily for her, but she wants no part of him, so he kidnaps her and takes her to his palace in the desert; she rejects him, but after she is re-kidnapped by bandits does she start to realize that she has fallen in love with the sheik, who rescues her in the nick of time!) starring Rudolph Valentino (in the title role as Sheik Ahmed Ben Hassan), Agnes Ayres, Ruth Miller, George Waggner, and Adolphe Menjou. Note that Valentino had risen to stardom in the late 1910s, but this movie made him a superstar! He would complete ten more movies over the next five years, but sadly, after making a sequel to this movie, "The Son of the Sheik", in 1926, he passed away from complications after surgery. He was just 31 years of age, and the entire world mourned his passing. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the front pane of the slide is cracked in three places. There are two uneven mostly vertical cracks in the left and right of the slide, and a long slightly diagonal horizontal crack running across the bottom of the image. It is fortunate that the three cracks only slightly affect the image, and do not go through the faces of either star. The original black tape that was around the four sides of the slide is long gone, and someone re-attached the front and back panes with masking tape on the top and bottom. The cracks in the front pane ARE a significant defect, but they are truly not all that noticeable. Glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: good. This glass slide has clear condition problems that causes it to be in less than "very good" condition. We do NOT describe those defects in words (UNLESS the defect is a crack in one or both panes of the glass, in which case we ALWAYS describe it elsewhere within the auction in words), and you can likely see some or all of them in the "large" and "super-sized" images we provide. If you are the sort who can accept a major defect, then you should bid on items in this condition grade, BUT PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THESE ITEMS UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THEIR VERY CLEAR DEFECTS!
