An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (40x60; measures 39 3/4" x 60" [101 x 152 cm]) (Learn More)

Gypsy, the 1962 Mervyn LeRoy musical biography ("Warner Bros. presents all the heart and happiness of the Broadway hit..."; "The girl who became the greatest show in show business."; "Everything's coming up roses for you and for you!"; "See the motion picture Hear the soundtrack stereo album Read the book"; "Based upon the play 'Gypsy.'"; "Book by Arthur Laurents"; "Music by Jule Styne"; "Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim"; "Based upon the Memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee"; of famed stripper Gypsy Rose Lee) starring Rosalind Russell, Natalie Wood (in the title role "as Gypsy Rose Lee"), Karl Malden, Paul Wallace, and Betty Bruce. Note that Gypsy Rose Lee (whose life story was highly fictionalized in this movie) was born in 1911 to the ultimate stage mother, who devoted her life to trying to give her two daughters successful careers in show business (at the time, primarily in vaudeville). Gypsy Rose Lee's birth name was Rose Louise Hovick, but she was called Louise from an early age, and her mother successfully got her a vaudeville career, sometimes with her sister, and sometimes solely by herself. In 1937, at the age of 26, she signed a contract with 20th Century Fox under her mostly real name of Louise Hovick, and she appeared in "Ali Baba Goes to Town" and five more movies in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Her sister broke off contact with both her and her mother, and became the actress June Havoc. While Gypsy Rose Lee did not have a memorable film career, her turbulent and exciting private life (and the play and movie based on it) has made her a household name, even to this day!

Important Added Info: Note that we have never auctioned this special 40x60 before! Note that this is a special 40x60 created that has reviews from newspapers and magazines. At this time, when 40x60s were created, they were almost always created unfolded on a heavy paper stock, EXCEPT for these special "magazine tie-in" posters, which were almost always created folded on a thin "one-sheet-like" paper (there were sometimes also 30x40 folded review posters as well). Also note that this 40x60 measures 39 3/4" x 60" [101 x 152 cm], but it has not been trimmed. It was originally sent to a theater folded, but it has been stored rolled for a number of years, which has diminished the folds, and we will send it to the new buyer that way, unless they specifically want us to re-fold it, in which case they could not return it.

Condition: very good to fine. The poster has two pinholes in the top corners and one in the bottom center. The one in the top right corner is enlarged, because the pin was roughly removed, and it slightly affects the "Y" of "YOU". The poster was originally folded and has the most minor of fold and border wear. Otherwise, it is in really nice condition!
