An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (28" x 41") (Learn More)

The Paliser Case, the 1920 William Parke silent romantic mystery melodrama ("A Romantic Mystery Drama by Edgar Saltus"; produced by Samuel Goldwyn) starring Pauline Frederick, Alan Roscoe, James Neill, Hazel Brennon, and Kate Lester. In the late 1910s through the early 1930s, MGM (and sometimes Paramount and a couple of other studios) would often make a regular one-sheet for a movie and, instead of a second style regular one-sheet, would instead make a special "rotogravure" one-sheet. Named after the rotogravure picture sections at the time popular in Sunday newspapers, these one-sheets would be printed in a single color, often sepia, but sometimes other colors, and they would usually incorporate pictorial images from the movie combined in a montage fashion. Very few rotogravure one-sheet have survived, since they were printed on the same paper stock used in newspapers of the time, and the paper is very fragile and often darkens. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a very interesting group of silent one-sheets from the late 1910s and early 1920s that were found under a carpet in a VERY old house! We have no idea why, but at some point in the early 1920s, someone took around 30 one-sheet posters and placed them in a stack under a carpet (perhaps to hide them?). They stayed there undisturbed for the next 75 or so years, until someone ripped up the carpet and found them. MANY OF THE POSTERS HAD SUSTAINED CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE, WHILE OTHERS WERE NOT THAT DAMAGED AT ALL. We are selling half of the posters from this unusual find this week on eBay (in 14 separate auctions), and we will sell the other half as separate auctions at some later date. All of these posters absolutely need expert professional restoration (obviously, some will require much more restoration than others), but in many cases, the poster we are offering may well be the only surviving example of that poster, so it would seem they are all well worth "rescuing". But please do not bid on any of these posters unless you have read our description of their condition, and have carefully studied our super-sized image, and unless you are prepared to pay to have the poster properly restored. Note that some of the posters measure different sizes (some may be trimmed) and we have noted their sizes. Finally, note that all of these posters are quite fragile, and we will send them rolled in a sturdy tube. Also note that this one-sheet measures 28" x 41". Please do not bid on this poster thinking it is 27" x 41".

Condition: fair. There is dark staining in the poster running from the left edge of the top foldline running across to the middle of Frederick's cheek and running all the way down to the top edge of the title. There is an 8" clean tear in the left border 2" below the middle foldline. There is a 12" tear in the middle of the bottom foldline and there are two lines of carpet tack holes running across the top of Frederick's credit. Certainly, this wonderful poster NEEDS to be restored! If some or all of the staining can be removed by chemical means, then the poster will not even need all that much paint restoration, but even if it requires paint to remove the staining, the poster will look fantastic, after proper linenbacking and restoration!
