Note that this movie was written by future director Sam Fuller, who had written a bunch of screenplays before this one, but who immediately after this movie was allowed to direct his own screenplay. This movie was directed by Douglas Sirk, famous for his soap opera melodramas, and the combination of Sirk and Sam Fuller made for an unusual mix of sappy romance and action film noir!
