An Original Vintage Linenbacked Italian Film Festival Poster (measures 27 3/4" x 39" [70 x 99 cm]) (Learn More) III Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica (literally translates to "III International Film Festival"), the 1935 Italian poster promoting a film festival which took place from August 10th to the 25th in Venice, Italy. This poster features wild art by Astolfo de Maria. Note that today this event is best known as the Venice Film Festival and it is the oldest film festival in the world. It was founded in 1932 as part of the Venice Biennale (an exhibition of Italian art founded in 1893), so that makes this poster the fourth poster for this festival! The range of work at the Venice Biennale now covers Italian and international art, architecture, dance, music, theatre, and cinema. These works are experienced at separate exhibitions: the International Art Exhibition, the International Festival of Contemporary Music, the International Theatre Festival, the International Architecture Exhibition, the International Festival of Contemporary Dance, the International Kids' Carnival, and the annual Venice Film Festival Artist: Astolfo de Maria Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had small tears and tiny paper loss on the folds. It had a long diagonal tear running from left of center in the top border, down to the center of the poster, and it once had tape on the back of that tear. It also had a 12" tear in the right of the bottom border, running up to the bottom of the globe, and that, too, had tape on the back. It had some other small tears and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Note that the restorer left a tiny bit of excess linen around all four sides of the poster (they left a small border in order to protect the poster from handling damage, but they did not leave a larger border, to allow it to more easily fit in a frame).
