An Original 1956 Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More)

Die Gefangene des Maharadscha (released in the U.S. in 1956 as "Circus Girl"), the 1954 Veit Harlan German India romantic circus adventure thriller ("Romance for three on the high trapeze!"; "In Gorgeous Color") starring Kristina Soederbaum (Veit Harlan's wife!), Willy Birgel, Rene Deltgen, Adrian Hoven, and Rolf von Nauckhoff. Note that director Veit Harlan was one of the most infamous of the Nazi film directors, directing Jud Suss and many other virulent anti-Jewish Nazi movies during World War II. After the war, almost ALL of his movies were banned, not just the anti-Jewish ones, and he was put on trial for war crimes. But in 1950, after several trials, he was set free, and in 1951, he resumed making movies, making a dozen of them until his passing in 1964. This movie appears to be a fairly standard romantic melodrama set in India, and yet when it was released in the U.S. in 1956 (two years later), it was re-titled "Circus Girl" (so we don't know if additional footage was shot or if the movie was re-cut, or if the American title was just very misleading.) If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info:

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small tears and small paper loss on the part of one fold that was on the outside when the poster was fully folded. It falls in the right of the elephant's head and goes down its head into the red circular area below it. Otherwise, the poster had pretty minor fold and border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
