Les Miserables, the 1925 (released in the U.S. in 1927; the first part was released as "Souls of Humanity" [Les Miserables Part I]) Henri Fescourt French France epic romantic crime melodrama ("Victor Hugo's Immortal Drama"; "Hugo's famous characters come to vivid life! Greatest dramatic screen achievement in years!"; "The Universal Film de France Triumph"; "Over 5,000 people in 6,000 gigantic scenes!"; based on the classic novel by Victor Hugo) starring Gabriel Gabrio (as Jean Valjean), Paul Jorge, Sandra Milovanoff (as both Fantine AND the adult Cosette), Andree Rolane (as Cosette as a child), Jean Toulout (as Javert), Francois Rozet (as Marius), Paul Guide (as Enjolras), Charles Badiole (as Gavroche), and Suzanne Nivette (as Eponine). Note that there had been an earlier silent version of this movie in 1913, but this was a gigantic production, running 6 hours long (some sourcess say 4 1/2 hours)! When it first premiered, it was shown in two separate parts, as two entirely separate movies (similar to "Kill Bill Vol. 1" and "Kill Bill Vol. 2"). After its first release, it was shown in four parts in France, and it premiered in the U.S. in 1926 and went into general release in 1927 in a condensed feature version that still ran 3 hours long! If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
