An Original Vintage Linenbacked Circus Poster (measures 42" x 80 1/2" [107 x 204 cm]) (Learn More)

This circus poster has no writing on it (or we can't read it or the translation does not help) and we do not know more about the performers and/or attractions, so we have listed it as "Unknown Circus Poster". If anyone knows more, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is a stock circus three-sheet that was created in the 1930s to advertise circuses. Usually, stock posters like these have a blank area at the top where individual circuses could overprint their name and play dates, but this one does not (perhaps circuses would glue a paper snipe to the bottom of the poster giving their name and play dates). We have never seen another example of this poster, so we know very little about it. It has a great stone litho image of a clown with a balloon in front of a carousel and a crowded circus, but it has no printing at the bottom (not even printer information), but we feel sure it is from the 1930s because of its great stone litho image. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had pretty minor wear on the folds, except for tears at the right end of the second from bottom horizontal fold. It had tears and areas of paper loss down the right side of the poster, extending into the green border area. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and someone repaired the above defects and painted over the right green border area.
