Date Sold 2/21/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably 1945) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 23 1/2" x 31 1/2" [60 x 80 cm]) (Learn More) Apres Mein Kampf Mes Crimes (released in English-speaking countries as "My Crimes After Mein Kampf"), the 1940 Alexandre Ryder (who sometimes used the pseudonym "Jean-Jacques Valjean") French World War II (WWII) Nazi melodrama starring Roger Karl, Line Noro, Pierre Labry, Alexandre Mihalesco, and Sandra Milovanoff. Note that this movie was released in France in March of 1940, just 2 months before the Germans invaded. It was first released in other European countries after the war was over (with additional footage added concerning the Holocaust). IMDB incorrectly states that this movie is connected to the 1940 British movie "After Mein Kampf?", but that film is a documentary and "Apres Mein Kampf Mes Crimes" is a melodrama with actors and snippets of newsreel footage. To make matters more confusing, there is a 1961 film titled "After Mein Kamp" which is likely a combination of newsreel footage from the 1940 film of the same name, new re-enactments by actors, and additional newsreel footage of concentration camps from when the Allies liberated the camps in Poland and Germany. Artist: V. Cristellys Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster! We have never auctioned any movie paper for this title in all our years of auctioning. Based on a translation of a French-language page about the making of this film, this poster may be from the 1945 re-release, but we are not certain. It looks like the film received an extremely limited release in March of 1940 (perhaps just in theaters owned by producer Jacques Haik). At the time, the director appears to have used the pseudonym "Jean-Jacques Valjean" but he is credited under his real name on our poster. Also, the art of Hitler on the poster may have been "inspired" by art used on posters for the 1940 British film "After Mein Kampf?", but the opposite could also be true (it does not help that these separate films have very similar titles). If it is from the 1945 re-release, it is certainly VERY possible that there were no posters for that 1940 limited release. The page goes on to mention that copies of the film were seized and destroyed when the Germans invaded, but Haik had kept a copy when he fled to Tunisia and later added new footage for the August 1945 re-release. Note also that this is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Condition: good. The poster has pieces of tape around the edges that stain the poster and some areas of the paper have become somewhat translucent. It has fold and border wear and a censor stamp at lower left. Certainly the poster could be restored and linenbacked and it would look great, but please bear in mind its defects and cost of restoration before placing a bid. Learn More about condition grades
