An Original Vintage Game Poster (measures 18" x 30") (Learn More) Mickey Mouse is an animated animation cartoon character created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. He first appeared in the cartoon short Steamboat Willie which was one of the first cartoons with synchronized sound and the first cartoon to feature a fully post-produced soundtrack. He was massively merchandised in the 1930s, and was a major part of the success of the Walt Disney studio. After his starring role in Fantasia (in the Sorcerer's Apprentice sequence), his popularity waned somewhat, but he remained the mascot of the studio, and has always been central to the studio (for example, Disney had a "Mickey Mouse Club" TV show where the children wore mouse ears). Important Added Info: Note that in 2018, we auctioned a different example of this game poster, but that one was in similar condition to this one, and it sold for $121! Also note that this is a classic "pin the tail on the donkey" type game, except it is Mickey Mouse in place of a donkey! It is a poster on thin poster paper that parents would buy. They would follow the instructions and cut the dotted line where the "tails" were, and then cut out the tails and give them to children to pin on Mickey while blindfolded (and after being spun three times)! The person who owned this tore along the dotted line, but did not cut out the tails. The poster could be linenbacked with both sections joined together, and if you look closely at our image, you can see that there is virtually no paper loss in that area. This is surely from the early 1930s (we have seen it identified as being from either 1934 or 1935). If anyone knows more about how this game was sold or distributed, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good. The poster is fragile and separating on the folds (and of course, it was separated in two pieces by a previous owner). It has tape on the front and back of the top corners. While it has clear condition issues, certainly any talented restorer could linenback it and it will display wonderfully after proper backing.
