An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French Movie Poster (measures 41 1/2" x 76" [105 x 193 cm]) (Learn More)

Mistinguett (born Jeanne Bourgeois) was a French singer, dancer and actress from the 1900s to the 1930s. She was born in 1875, and she was a dancer in music halls when she was a teenager. She became a leading French stage star (both singing and dancing), and in 1911, she "stole" Maurice Chevalier from his dance partner and girlfriend, Frehel, and Mistinguett and Chevalier became major stars (poor Frehel tried to commit suicide and had drug and alcohol problems the rest of her life). Mistinguett and Chevalier performed the 'danse de apaches', and they appeared in two movies together. Chevalier then served in World War I, and he started his solo act after the war. Mistinguett appeared solo in movies and on stage for many years. She passed away in 1956 at the age of 80.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

UPDATED 03/30/2011: Note that a knowledgeable collector pointed out that the artist of this poster is Daniel De Losque (his full birth name was Daniel Paul Henri Casimir Thouroude!).

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had lots of creases and tears scattered throughout and there were small circular areas of paper loss scattered throughout. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. Someone linenbacked the poster well, and then they started to perform restoration, but they only did restoration within the girl's figure and the top background area, but for unknown reasons, they did not do the restoration in the green background area. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored!
