Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Danish Movie Poster (measures 24" x 37 1/4") (Learn More) The Lottery Man, the 1919 James Cruze silent romantic love triangle comedy (handsome Wallace Reid borrows $500 from his newspaper owner friend and then loses it in the Stock Market, so he has the owner run a lottery in his paper, selling tickets, and the winner gets to marry Wallace Reid!; but meanwhile, he has fallen in love with the owner's cousin, but he will be forced to marry the winner of the lottery, or will he?) starring Wallace Reid, Harrison Ford (not the same Harrison Ford that we know as an actor today, but a very popular leading man of the 1920s), Wanda Hawley, Fanny Midgley, Sylvia Ashton, Caroline Rankin, and Wilton Taylor. Note that Wallace Reid was a major star of the early 1910s, who fell in love with Dorothy Davenport, who was a young starlet. He married her, and they made many movies together in the middle 1910s, marrying in 1913. In 1917, Davenport had their son, and she made few movies after the birth of her son, but he remained a top star. In 1919, Wallace Reid was making a movie "The Valley of the Giants", and he was injured, and took morphine to enable him to finish filming. He became a major drug addict, and made 24 movies over the next 3 years, but died in 1923 at the age of 31, and it is unclear exactly how large a part drugs and alcohol played in his death, but certainly this was one of the first great Hollywood drug scandals. The following year, Davenport produced "Human Wreckage", an expose of Hollywood and drugs, billed as "Mrs. Wallace Reid", and she made a total of six movies after "Human Wreckage", always billed the same way. In 1934, she retired and she died in 1977 at the age of 82. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. It now looks great, and most dealers would describe it as "fine (or mint) on linen". We have noted the defects that were restored below (and feel everyone should always do this!). Many collectors would not be aware of the restoration this poster has had unless it was specifically shown to them! Condition: very good to fine. There were tears in the top of the left blank border and two tears in the top blank border, as well as small holes at the crossfolds. All were well restored and now the poster looks very good.. Most of the linenbacked posters we sell were restored by the finest professionals. An expertly linenbacked poster will often appear "mint", as its defects have been made to "vanish".
