Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (40x60; measures 40" x 60") (Learn More) Last of the Pagans, the 1935 Richard Thorpe romantic South Seas tropical island adventure melodrama ("White menace in the paradise of the bride-hunters!"; based on the novel 'Typee' by Herman Melville; about the exploitation of natives in the South Seas by white mine and plantation owners; in the movie version, the parts of one of the natives and his girlfriend become the centerpiece, and the exploitation of natives is downplayed) starring Ray Mala (billed as "Mala"), Lotus Long (billed as "Lotus"), Teio A. Tematua, Rangapo A. Taipoo, and Chester Gan NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of the special 40x60 posters that were created by the Meloy Bros. Inc company of Shelbyville, Indiana in 1935 and 1936! This company created special 40x60 posters that were distributed to theaters in the Midwest, and are NOT like 40x60 posters that were created by the studios at that time. VERY IMPORTANT! CLICK THIS LINK TO READ FULL INFORMATION ABOUT THESE SPECIAL POSTERS (do not bid on this poster until you have read the information on the linked page). Condition: good. There are two fine scuff lines running diagonally in the extreme left of Mala's hair, and a line of horizontal scuff marks running from the edge of his ear through his hair. There is a 4" scratch in the bottom left, extending into the edge of the girl's finger. There are some tiny dots of paper loss in Mala's cheek and scratches in both his eyes and both the girl's eyes. There is surface paper loss and tiny paper loss around the edges of the poster (more so in the corners), and the poster is "lifting" from the board in the corners. There are creases and scuffs scattered throughout the poster, more so in the solid background areas, but there ARE some in the stars' faces, in addition to the defects described above (study our super-sized image to see exactly what they are, but those are not very distracting). There are also some other scuffs and smudges throughout the image and some dents and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster (please study our super-sized image to clearly see the above described defects). Certainly, a talented restorer could perform restoration to this poster, after which the defects would not be very noticeable at all. Learn More about condition grades
