An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22") (Learn More)

Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, the classic 1925 Fred Niblo & Alfred Raboch silent religious epic ("A tale of the Christ by General Lew Wallace"; "A tale of the life of Christ"; "Never will I forget thee"; "A doomed slave, his spirit was unbroken"; "The Great Chariot Race"; "Before the chariot race... Esther bids godspeed to Ben-Hur"; "Produced from the scenario of Carey Wilson. Adaptation by June Mathis"; "From the novel published and copyrighted by Harper and Brothers"; "from the immortal novel by Gen. Lew Wallace"; it includes the famous sea battle and chariot race that the later version of this movie is most famous for) starring Ramon Novarro (in the title role as Ben-Hur), Betty Bronson (as Mary), May McAvoy (as Esther), Francis X. Bushman (as Messala), Carmel Myers (as Iras), Kathleen Key (as Tirzah), Frank Currier, Claire McDowell, Clark Gable (as a Roman guard; in one of his 14 uncredited roles prior to making his real debut in 1931's "The Painted Desert"), and Claude Payton (in the title role as Jesus Christ). Note that this movie was advertised as being "Filmed in its entirety in Italy", but actually, several of the scenes were filmed in Hollywood!

Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards.

Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had a diagonal tear running across the card, starting to the left of the "B" of "BEN" in the left border, and running down through the title, through Novarro's shoulder, and ending in the background above the horses' heads. There was a 3" tear in the lower right, in the background above the chariot rider's head. There were pinholes, creases, smudges, and tears around the edges of the card and some dot stains and smudges scattered through the card. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed, and the restorer chose to do a "minimal" restoration, to avoid the poster having a "heavily restored" look. I think this worked quite well, because you can see signs of the defects and the restoration of the defects from close up, but from any reasonable viewing distance, they are not very noticeable or distracting at all.
