An Original Vintage Museum Art Exhibition Promotional Shopping Bag (measures 17" x 24" [43 x 61 cm]) (Learn More)

Andy Warhol - Campbell's Soup Bag, the 1966 original silkscreen art exhibit shopping bag. Note that this is NOT a "shopping bag" that was given to people to put purchases in! It was created to promote an Andy Warhol art exhibition held at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Massachusetts, and features iconic Warhol art of a Campbell's Condensed Tomato Soup can. We don't know how many were made, but they are rarely seen except at expensive art galleries, where they carry huge price tags!

Artist: Andy Warhol
Important Added Info: Our consignor purchased this museum exhibition bag from the owners of an antique shop that Andy Warhol frequented during his antique and collectible buying days (it was right near where he lived, and it was called "The Little Antique Shop"). The owners became friends with Warhol, and he gave this museum exhibition bag to them, and our consignor purchased it from them (both owners have both since passed away). We have only seen one other of these bags, and we auctioned that in 2012 for $1,650!

Condition: good to very good. The bag has some slight rippling and uneven discoloration throughout, caused by exposure to moisture. It has a faint brown water stain near the center of the silkscreen art, in the background above the "AT" of "TOMATO". The bag was folded and there is wear on those folds (see our images of the front and back of the bag). It would seem likely that a restorer could remove some of the slight discoloration and the faint brown stain through chemical means, without putting paint on the bag, if the new owner wanted it to look unused.
