An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

The Most Dangerous Game (released in England as "Hounds of Zaroff"), the 1932 Irving Pichel & Ernest B. Schoedsack mystery adventure horror thriller ("Fascinating, strange and terrible is the story of Zaroff, who hunted men like animals for a sporting thrill"; '"The finest specimens I ever killed"'; produced by Merian C. Cooper; based on the story 'The Most Dangerous Game' by Richard Connell, one of many movies based on this classic story!) starring Joel McCrea, Fay Wray, Leslie Banks (as Zaroff), Robert Armstrong, and Noble Johnson. Note that this movie was filmed simultaneously with "King Kong", so many of the actors, sets, and sound effects from King Kong were used in this movie! Also note that Leslie Banks was a distinguished English stage actor who made his first movie appearance in this most unusual movie (the IMDb claims he was in a 1921 movie, but we don't know that that is accurate, and he surely did not have a leading role)!

Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare poster! In 2011, another auction house auctioned a restored example of this poster (proclaiming it "the only known existing style of this half-sheet"), and it sold for $31,070. Obviously, this example offered here has considerable defects, but a talented restorer can repair those, and the colors on it are good and unfaded, which is a big plus! We wanted to auction this poster "as is", both so that bidders can see exactly what its many defects are (please study our super-sized image), but also so they can decide exactly which restorer to choose, and also to decide exactly how much restoration they want performed. After proper restoration by a top professional, this super rare poster will look fantastic!

Condition: fair. The poster was never machine folded, but it was hand folded down the middle. There are many tears and areas of paper loss around the edges, with many areas of staining. There is a 5" horizontal tear near the lower center of the poster, mostly in the background area. There is paper loss in the bottom of the "O" of "JOEL" in McCrea's credit. There is a 6" tear in the middle of the left of the poster that extends through Wray's hair and there are other tears in the left border that extend into the image. There is a 9" slightly diagonal cut running down Banks' face going through the middle of his nose and ending by one of his fingers. There are many smudges, scuffs, and a few tears scattered in the image. Many years ago, someone put many pieces of brown paper tape on the back of the borders of the poster, and also pieces of brown paper tape on the back of the tears and other image defects described above, and they made a slight attempt to color the paper tape that showed through to the front where the paper loss was. But otherwise, no one has made any effort to restore this poster in decades!
