Parker Read Jr. silent World War I (WWI) romantic triangle melodrama (produced by Samuel Goldwyn; based on the story by Frank Brownlee; about two rough men who are best friends, and one falls in love with a girl and gets her pregnant, but then he is sent to World War I, and when his best friend and girl hear that he has been killed, they get married so that the unborn baby will have a father, but then four years later, he miraculously returns after being a German prisoner, and the girl must decide which of the two men she wants for her husband!) starring Hobart Bosworth, Rowland V. Lee, Jean Calhoun, and Frank Brownlee NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this one-sheet has been trimmed and now measures 27 1/2" x 40 1/4" [70 x 102 cm]. In the late 1910s through the early 1930s, MGM (and sometimes Paramount and a couple of other studios) would often make a regular one-sheet for a movie and, instead of a second style regular one-sheet, would instead make a special "rotogravure" one-sheet. Named after the rotogravure picture sections at the time popular in Sunday newspapers, these one-sheets would be printed in a single color, often sepia, but sometimes other colors, and they would usually incorporate pictorial images from the movie combined in a montage fashion. Very few rotogravure one-sheet have survived, since they were printed on the same paper stock used in newspapers of the time, and the paper is very fragile and often darkens. Years ago, some collector had this poster mounted onto foamcore. While most collectors do not like this, I have seen many posters that have been mounted on foamcore for years, and it never has any ill effects on the poster, so I am not sure why there is a bias against it!
UPDATED 08/11/2015: Note that this is an original 1920 rotogravure poster and NOT a 1950s re-release poster as we initially mentioned. We have also updated the Condition Description. Condition: fair to good. The poster was mounted foamcore (see above). The blank borders of the poster have been trimmed (it likely originally measured around 28" x 42"). It had much separation along the foldlines and edges and paper loss in the upper crossfold as well as other fold and border defects. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid and please do not bid unless you can accept the defects described above, or you are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
