An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (40x60; measures 39 3/4" x 60" [101 x 152 cm]) (Learn More) The Seance of Wonders, 1945 poster promoting a traveling Spook Show ("Now On Transcontinental Tour!"; "On the Stage"; "Internationally Famous"; "Conducted by Dr. Zomb"; "Fearless! Exotic Practices Revealed"; "Bold! Shocking! Nurses in attendance"; "Plus a superb screen program"). This was a poster for a "spook show" of the 1940s ("spook shows" started in the 1930s, and continued into the late 1960s, with their greatest prominence in the late 1940s and 1950s). Local theaters would book three to five low budget movies, and then advertise them as a late night "spook show". Often they would have "live" acts on stage (sometimes famous actors who had appeared in monster movies would appear on stage in full make up, and sometimes it would be local actors dressed as monsters), and often the posters would make outrageous promises (sometimes they might say a person would be beheaded on stage, etc!). Not too many of these spook show posters survive (almost all the known surviving ones are window cards, some of which are 14" x 22", and some of which are 22" x 28", and the shows certainly had very limited runs). The few "spook show" window cards that DO survive are rarely in even "very good" condition. If anyone knows more about this show or this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this 40x60 from 1945 is different from forty by sixties from later years! It was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap, on paper similar to that used for one-sheets at the time. Also note that this 40x60 measures 39 3/4" x 60" [101 x 152 cm]. Finally, note that the theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). Condition: good. The theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). There are tears (some with small areas of paper loss) and small stains on parts of some foldlines and in parts of the borders (see our image). Obviously, any talented restorer could perform restoration during the linenbacking process, and this wonderful poster will look fantastic! Learn More about condition grades
