An Original Vintage Theatrical Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

The Chinese Parrot, the 1927 Paul Leni silent Asian detective crime murder mystery thriller ("Murder! Murder!"; "Carl Laemmle presents Earl Derr Biggers sensational novel"; "From the Saturday Evening Post by Earl Derr Biggers"; this was the second movie in the long-running Charlie Chan series; about a woman whose father forces her to marry a man he chose; another man who loved her says that he will have her one day, for the same price as the expensive pearl necklace her father gave her to go along with his choice; 20 years later, she is a widow and down and out, and she ends up negotiating to sell the pearls to the man she jilted, who has hired Charlie Chan to help him in the negotiations, but they are stolen, and Chan is able to find out who did it, with the help of a parrot that witnessed the crime and told him who did it!) starring Marian Nixon, Edmund Burns, Hobart Bosworth, Anna May Wong, Edgar Kennedy (billed as "Ed Kennedy"), George Kuwa (he played the very first Charlie Chan in the movies, but was replaced by Sojin in this second movie), and Sojin Kamiyama (billed as "Sojin"; as Charlie Chan). Note that there was a third Charlie Chan movie in 1929, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. In 1931 came "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Note that director Paul Leni was an incredible German director who made "Waxworks" in 1924. He came to the U.S. where he made "The Cat and the Canary" in 1927, and he made this movie the same year. The next year, he made "The Man Who Laughs", followed by "The Last Warning" in 1929. Sadly, he passed away that year from a blood infection. He was only 44, and there is no telling how many more great movies he might have made. Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers. This movie combined his talents with that of the great director Paul Leni, which makes it doubly sad that this is a "lost" film!

Important Added Info: Note that first release 1927 movie posters from this early Charlie Chan movie are incredibly rare. We have never sold even a single movie paper item (except for two German programs) from this movie until we received this insert! A talented restorer gel backed the poster (meaning they backed the poster onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the defects described below, and then removed the gel backing, so that the poster still exactly looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. The restoration was done really well, and the poster displays really well!

Condition: very good. The poster was gel backed (see above). This particular poster was never folded. It had uneven paper loss in the top blank border and in the top 3" of the right blank border. It had darkening in the top quarter of the right blank border and in the right quarter of the top blank border. Other than those blank border defects, the poster was in really nice condition prior to restoration. It was gel backed by a talented professional and expert restoration was performed to the above defects. The poster displays great, and best of all, it still completely looks and feels like an unrestored poster!
