Date Sold 9/12/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Spanish Campaign Book (measures 6 3/4" x 9 1/2" [17 x 24 cm]; 56 pages) (Learn More) United Artists 1932-33, the 1932 Spanish campaign book featuring the release of upcoming United Artists movies in Spain in the coming year. There are two real oddities to this campaign book. Normally, campaign books solely have ads for one specific studio, but this book has both United Artists and Columbia logos on the cover and also on the first interior page, and yet, oddly, there are no Columbia movies advertised. However, it does include a few pages of ads for RKO movies, so United Artists might have had a deal to distribute Columbia movies in Spain that fell through, and then they likely made a deal to distribute some RKO movies, but it is all VERY odd! Note that while it is possible that this Spanish campaign book the same the U.S. campaign book from the same year, we don't know for certain, because we have never auctioned a 1932-33 U.S. campaign book. It is also possible that this book has some different movies, because they might not have arrived in Spain until the following year. The campaign book includes black and white images of ads for the major upcoming United Artists films including City Lights with Charlie Chaplin, Front Page, Arrowsmith, Raffles, Scarface with Paul Muni and many other upcoming United Artists movies. There is a wonderful two-page spread advertising Mickey Mouse cartoons, and one page contains three "film strips" with multiple images of Mickey Mouse and the other page has a great image of Walt Disney at his drawing board (see our images). Note that in 1933, the Spanish branch of United Artists put out a larger campaign book just dated 1933, and that one included two-color ads, so maybe by that point, they had greater success, and they wanted a new campaign book that got rid of the references to Columbia and RKO, so they made the bigger one! UPDATED 09/09/2019: Note that we have added an image of the page promoting Scarface with Paul Muni. Condition: good to very good. There are stains on the covers. It is possible that the book originally had an "index page" at the back that is missing, but we really can't say, because we have never had another example of this book, and if it is missing, it is solely a text list of the movies advertised.
