An Original 1949 (from the first release of this movie in Italy) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian One-Panel (known in Italy as a "2 Fogli") Movie Poster (1p; measures 39" x 55" [99 x 140 cm]) (Learn More) W. Somerset Maugham's Of Human Bondage, the 1946 Edmund Goulding tortured-romantic melodrama (based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham; about a medical student who falls madly in love with a trashy woman who torments him and mostly ruins his life) starring Paul Henreid (as Philip Carey), Eleanor Parker (as Mildred Rogers), Alexis Smith, Edmund Gwenn, and Janis Paige. Note that the first move based on this novel was filmed in 1934 with Bette Davis and Leslie Howard in the lead roles, and that there was a 1964 version with Kim Novak and Laurence Harvey. Italian posters from the first few years after World War II are among the most rare posters there are! Apparently, there were still major paper shortages in Italy, and few posters were printed, and most were recycled. This is an extremely rare first release Italian poster from 1949. Note that this poster ships in a very long tube (at least 33" long, but possibly 50" long or more). Therefore the shipping for this poster will be more than that for a poster that ships in a tube 32" or shorter, and possibly much more. Please bear this added shipping expense in mind before bidding on this poster. You can tell how long of a tube this poster needs to ship in by looking at the shorter dimension of its length and width and then adding 4" to that (so a 47" x 63" poster will need to ship in a 51" long tube). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tears and tiny paper loss on parts of some folds, including a 1" one in Parker's mouth by her cheek, and one going from her hair into her ear and down to her neck. There were some tears in Henreid's collar, extending down into his jacket. There were a few tears in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. A really talented restorer did an excellent job backing the poster. From any reasonable viewing distance, the above tears are not noticeable or distracting, and this wonderful poster will display really well on the new owner's wall! Learn More about condition grades
