Date Sold 2/18/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Jumbo Spook Show Window Card Poster (WC; measures 21" x 24 1/2" [53 x 62 cm]) (Learn More) Halloween Midnite Show, the 1950s Spook Show double-bill advertising a special show at the Alliance Theatre on Friday, October 30th and 31st ("Special Howlarious Halloween Midnite Show"; "Spooks"; "Chills" "Thrills"; "About 11:30 PM"). This was a poster for a "spook show" of the 1930s ("spook shows" started in the 1930s, and continued into the late 1960s, with their greatest prominence in the late 1940s and 1950s). Local theaters would book three to five low budget movies, and then advertise them as a late night "spook show". Often they would have "live" acts on stage (sometimes famous actors who had appeared in monster movies would appear on stage in full make up, and sometimes it would be local actors dressed as monsters), and often the posters would make outrageous promises (sometimes they might say a person would be beheaded on stage, etc!). Not too many of these spook show posters survive (almost all the known surviving ones are window cards, some of which are 14" x 22", and some of which are 22" x 28", and the shows certainly had very limited runs). The few "spook show" window cards that DO survive are rarely in even "very good" condition. If anyone knows more about this specific spook show or this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we can pretty certainly date this poster to 1952 because it mentions that it will be held on "Friday Oct. 31", and they showed So Young, So Bad, which is a 1950 movie, and the first time that October 31 fell on Friday after 1949 is 1952. Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. If it is a size that might ordinarily be rolled in a tube (like a half-sheet), the reason it is in this auction is specifically because we feel it either CAN'T be rolled or because we feel it would be a mistake to roll it, because it might well damage the item. In the case of the few items that could be rolled, we will roll the item in a tube if the new owner insists, but only if they accept that they can't return the item if it is damaged from being rolled. So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. Condition: very good. The poster has slightly darkened around the edges but is otherwise in really nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
