He was researching a book about Karloff (the book would not be written for nine more years, but he sent it to Mrs. Karloff when it was published, and she called him and told him what she thought of it!). The playbill comes in a plastic sleeve, and Mr. Nollen wrote the above information (and more) on the plastic sleeve in marker, so it serves as a "COA" that this playbill was indeed Boris Karloff's personal property.
