An Original Vintage Theatrical German Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 8 1/2" x 11 3/4" [22 x 30 cm]; 47 pages) (Learn More) Robert Koch, der Bekampfer des Todes (also released simply as "Robert Koch"; literally translates to "Robert Koch, The Fighter of Death"), the 1939 Hans Steinhoff German medical doctor biographical historical melodrama starring Emil Jannings (in the title role as Robert Koch), Werner Krauss, Viktoria Viktoria von Ballasko, Raimund Schelcher, Hildegard Grethe, Theodor Loos, Otto Gral, Peter Elsholtz, and Paul Otto (he was a famous German actor during the 1920s and 1930s, and he appeared in many Nazi propaganda movies, and became a favorite of Joseph Goebbels; but late in 1943, it was discovered that he was Jewish, and he and his wife committed suicide in their home!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this pressbook is a "country of origin" pressbook for this 1939 German movie! There are virtually no German pressbooks in existence for any World War II and earlier German movies, so this is remarkably rare. Not only that, but it is incredibly elaborate, with 47 pages, a great full-color cover, and a tipped-in herald (see our images). Best of all, it is in wonderful condition! Also note that the unknown cover artist illustrated the scene that is used on the German program cover, but he did not show the corpse completely topless as the photo on the program book cover does. We don't know how it managed to survive, but we are really glad that it did. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Finally, note that this German pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good to fine, NO CUTS. The pressbook has "Made in Germany" stamped in the top right blank corner. Other than some minor creases around the edges, the pressbook is in remarkable condition, considering its age! Learn More about condition grades
