Date Sold 9/14/2017 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 6 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Pursuit to Algiers, the 1945 Roy William Neill North Africa detective mystery crime thriller ("Based on the Characters Created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle"; set on a transatlantic ocean liner sailing from New York to Europe; on board is an heir to a European throne, whose father was assassinated, and there are many on the ship who would do the same to the son, and Holmes and Watson make sure that doesn't happen) starring Basil Rathbone (as Sherlock Holmes), Nigel Bruce (as Doctor Watson), Marjorie Riordan, John Abbott, Martin Kosleck, Gerald Hamer, Rosalind Ivan, William Davis (billed as "Wee Willie Davis"), Rex Evans, and Leslie Vincent NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is not a complete set of eight lobby cards, but the title card and five of the scenes are present, and that is what the winning bidder will receive (see our images for which cards are present). This is a rare opportunity to acquire six cards from this title at one time! Note also that this auction also includes the printed envelope this item originally came with! Condition: very good. The title card has a diagonal crease in the top right blank corner and a few faint smudges around the edges with just a few other tiny border creases. The card with Rathbone and Bruce talking to a man as has a 2 1/2" tear in the lower left bottom border that was repaired with tape from the back, two other small tears in the borders, and some tiny pinholes in the corners. It also has smudges around the edges and an NSS number written in pencil in the lower left blank border. The card with Nigel Bruce and the young couple has surface paper loss down the left edge of the image and across the top background area where paper tape was removed. On the other three cards they have pretty minor border wear and only one of the three has tiny pinholes in the corners. The one card with the surface paper loss is in "fair to good" condition but the other cards range from "very good" to "very good to fine".
