A Folded Dutch Special Poster (measures 21 1/4" x 26" [54 x 66 cm]) (Learn More) Jongens Met Pit Melden Zich Allen Bij de Waffen-SS (literally translates to "Boys with Wits all Report at the Waffen-SS"), the 1945 Dutch World War II (WWII) recruitment poster created by the Nazi German occupying forces encouraging "smart" Dutch boys to join the Nazi Waffen-SS, and featuring images and information about the benefits of doing so (and making it sound like they would have a lot of fun and learn useful skills while they were doing so!). The Germanic SS (Germanische SS) was the collective name given to Nordic SS groups which arose in occupied Europe between 1939 and 1945. The units were modeled on the Allgemeine SS in Nazi Germany. Such groups existed in Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Belgium, whose populations the Nazi ideologues considered to be especially "racially suitable". After the invasion of Poland in 1939, Heinrich Himmler, head of the SS, sought to expand the Waffen-SS with foreign volunteers for the "crusade against Bolshevism". The enrollment began in April 1940 with the creation of two regiments: the Waffen-SS Regiment Nordland (for Danish, Norwegian and Swedish volunteers), and the Waffen-SS Regiment Westland (for Dutch and Flemish volunteers). After the war, the unit personnel were tried in the Netherlands, with several death sentences handed down. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
